Finches. Original chromo-lithograph by Vincent Brooks Day & Son, printed for Cassell & Company’s ‘The Illustrated Book of Canaries and Cage-Birds,’ published 1878. Illustrated birds include the Greenfinch & Canary Mule, Goldfinch & Linnet Mule and the Bullfinch & Goldfinch Mule. Paper size approx. 10.5×8 inches. A nice colourful Victorian print in excellent condition.
Mules were popularly bred in the Victorian Era as hybrids of British Finches and Canaries. These sterile mules were both good looking and good singers.
