Nah-Pope or Neapope (Broth), a Sauk Warrior. and advisor to Black Hawk during the Black Hawk War of 1832. against the United States. During the 1812 War many Sauk fought on the side of the British. During the Black Hawk War of 1832 they carried British Union flags into battle against the U. S. Army and were known as the "British Band." Portrait taken from Dr. James C. Prichard's 'Natural History of Man'. 1855 edition. Published in London and New York by Hippolyte Bailliere. Original hand-coloured etching. Paper size approx. 9.5×6 inches. A scarce antique item.
