Kings Bench Prison, in Southwark, London, was a prison for misdemeanours, defamation and bankruptcy. Commonly known as a debtors prison. This aquatint is both watermarked and dated in the plate 1808, and is a bright and clean example of Ackermann’s craft. Dimensions of the print from the plate mark are 11×9 inches. Print has full margins (and text) which are not captured by the scan.
