Richmond Virginia's destruction by Union Forces antique print published 1865. Original double-page panorama of the Confederate capital following its capture by Union Forces published in 'The Illustrated London News' Oct. 21st. 1865. The newspaper reports "wholesale incendiarism, causing the destruction of a great many offices, factories, shops, and dwelling houses." It opines it is "one of the most terrible instances of the destructive fury of a civil war."
This rare original antique print measures approx. 22x16 inches (paper size) with full text verso as to the results of the "conflagration" and the hopes for the future. Excellent condition. Usual centre fold.
